Records Technician (Records Division)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
What You’ll Do:
- Process and respond to requests for departmental records from the public, businesses, and government agencies.
- Review, scan, and update records in our Records Management System (RMS) and Jail Management System (JMS).
- Enter, update, and clear information in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database.
- Perform quality checks and audits on sensitive records, including sex offender files and criminal histories.
- Handle expungement requests and maintain compliance with state and national regulations.
- Provide excellent customer service, answering inquiries and resolving issues via phone, email, and in-person.
Job Specifications and Qualifications
What You Bring:
- A high school diploma or equivalent, plus at least one year of clerical experience (or equivalent education/experience).
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task.
- Proficiency in basic office computer systems and data entry.
- Great communication and customer service skills.
- A valid South Carolina driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain NCIC certification, which includes:
- Passing a background check.
- Completing formal training provided by the agency.
- Successfully passing an exam to gain access to the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database.
- Handling sensitive law enforcement data in compliance with federal and state regulations.
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
Physical Requirements:
This position involves light work, including exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally. You may be required to stand, walk, stoop, and perform other physical activities typical in an office environment.
