Job Purpose

Provides support to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department during Incident Command System (ICS) deployments.  Assists as a team member with training and working special events and displays.   Maintains Special Operations equipment and vehicles.  Mobilizes to an incident, natural or manmade, when their special skills are needed.   Assists with day to day tasks of LCSD Special Operations, to include fleet vehicle records and maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with management of large scale events where ICS is being implemented and provides technical knowledge of proper documentation of these events.
  • Assists with the accountability for the inventory and maintenance of Special Operations equipment and vehicles.
  • Acts as a liaison between Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and local, state, and federal Emergency Management Divisions.
  • Attends training and planning meetings with the Emergency Management Divisions.
  • Operates the command post and ICS equipment as it pertains to an incident or training exercise.
  • Modifies or develops best practices used within the Incident Command System as required by LCSD Policies and Procedures.
  • Assists with the LCSD fleet, to include record keeping of vehicle assignments and assisting Lexington County Fleet Services as a liaison.
  • Performs other similar duties as required.

Job Specifications and Qualifications

Knowledge:

  • Functions of the Incident Command System and how to implement ICS
  • Equipment functions and how the equipment can be utilized in an incident
  • Ability to communicate with various people both on and off site

Skills:

  • Preparation of technical and scientific reports
  • Basic computer systems
  • Maintaining confidentiality of information
  • Written and verbal communication via in-person, phone and email

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent, with 1 to 3 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Licensing and Certifications:

  • Valid South Carolina Driver’s License;
  • Assignment-specific licenses and certifications may be required.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
  • Positions in this class typically require fingering, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking, repetitive motions, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching, climbing and balancing, pushing, pulling, and lifting, moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, and intense noises.
