Job Purpose

Provides comprehensive administrative and operational support to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department (LCSD) Special Operations. Key responsibilities include maintaining fleet vehicle records, assisting with equipment installations, and supporting Incident Command System (ICS) deployments. An assigned county vehicle is part of the job package, requiring a good driving record.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages administrative aspects of large-scale events and ICS implementations, including proper documentation and technical support.
  • Maintains accurate inventory and condition records for Special Operations equipment and vehicles.
  • Serves as the administrative liaison between LCSD and local, state, and federal Emergency Management Divisions.
  • Coordinates training and planning meetings with Emergency Management Divisions.
  • Assists with the operation of the command post and ICS equipment during incidents or training exercises.
  • Assists in developing and modifying operational best practices in line with LCSD policies.
  • Handles fleet-related administrative duties, including record keeping of vehicle assignments and liaison work with Lexington County Fleet Services.

Supplemental Functions:

  • Performs light mechanical work related to equipment installations on fleet vehicles as needed.
  • Drives an RV style vehicle as part of assigned duties; comfort with larger vehicles is a must.
  • Available for after-hours and weekend work during significant emergency responses (e.g., hurricanes, floods, or community events).
  • Performs other similar duties as required.

Job Specifications and Qualifications

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of the Incident Command System and its implementation.
  • Familiarity with the functions of various emergency management equipment.

Skills:

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports and maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficient in basic computer systems and software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent, with 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in an administrative role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Licensing and Certifications:

  • Valid South Carolina Driver’s License: good driving record required.
  • No CDL required but must be comfortable driving larger vehicles.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
  • Positions in this class typically require talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking, repetitive motions, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching, climbing and balancing, pushing, pulling, and lifting, moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, and intense noises.
